FAQ

How do you read tachograph data?

Data from a tachograph is read using a special device or software designed to download information from a digital tachograph and driver card. The process involves connecting a reader to the tachograph installed in the vehicle or inserting the driver card into a dedicated terminal. The data is saved in digital files and can later be analyzed by the transport company or during inspections.

What information can be read from a tachograph?

A tachograph can provide detailed information about the driver’s work and vehicle operation. The device records driving time, breaks, rest periods, vehicle speed, and route mileage. It also logs events such as speeding incidents, tampering attempts, and the insertion or removal of the driver card. This data is used by transport companies to monitor working hours and by inspection authorities during roadside checks.

How much does tachograph data download cost?

The cost of downloading data from a tachograph depends on the workshop and the scope of the service. In many transport service centers, a one-time download of tachograph or driver card data usually costs from several dozen to around PLN 100. Some transport companies also use remote data download systems operating on a subscription basis.

How often should tachograph data be downloaded?

The frequency of downloading tachograph data is defined by road transport regulations. Data from the tachograph memory should be downloaded at least once every 90 days, while data from the driver card must be downloaded no less frequently than every 28 days. Regular data collection allows transport companies to monitor drivers’ working hours and comply with inspection requirements.

Is the driver required to download the driver card data?

The driver is not always personally responsible for downloading data from the driver card, but they must allow access to the card and use it correctly during work. According to regulations, the transport company is responsible for regularly downloading and archiving data from driver cards and tachographs. In practice, this means the driver should provide the card for reading or use the company’s card reader according to internal procedures.
